Actually, (and don't throw eggs at me) I'm not going to flame Mancow on this one. Was what he said way over the top, completely inaccurate, and totally irresponsible? Yep. Absolutely. Is what he said exactly what he's paid to do? Yep. Absolutely. Here we are talking about his show on a forum that otherwise would never even dream of posting a "..I heard on Mancow this morning.." type of gossip. He's a shock jock and gets paid by having listeners for his sponsors. He got you to listen much longer than you would have otherwise, and probably got a few ad spots in there along the way. He did his job, and did it quite successfully from what it appears.

AMEN!!! Actually, many teachers that I know (including myself) are already fans of using social networking sites (MySpace, Facebook, Ning and the link) and interactive communication software such as wikis and blogs as an educational vehicle, but it's the administration that often throws up the road block to such things. :(

I emailed him as well. It would be nice if people got their facts straight! Thank goodness that I now live in a very rural place (one w/out Mancow)...

But I am glad that you had your ears open and that you were able to let us all know his latest rant!

If anyone else wants to email Mancow, here is some ammo:

Books on the banned book list are books that have been challenged by various groups and are... "reported to or recorded by the Office for Intellectual Freedom, as compiled by the Office for Intellectual Freedom, American Library Association". From the ALA website

http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/bbwlinks/100mostfrequently.cfm

A classic case of shooting the messenger, if I ever heard it. What a shame.

Well, we could all email him at mancow@mancow.com - I did. Though given his ranty proclivities and idiotic statements, he likely will have to have someone else read it to him.

This did not help my bitchtastic mood :)

Very nice screencast about OpenID, quite thorough and well done. I work for Vidoop and we have a OpenID provider at http://myvidoop.com

It is a free service, has two factor authentication w/o passwords, has a cool online password manager plugin available, supports OpenID delegation etc. I would be happy to hear any feedback you may have.

Best wishes, hope you have a good time at ALA!

@Doug I've played with the Events feature, it's pretty intensive on the data entry so it really isn't worth the effort for most events, it's just too much labor. I put in the "major" events and leave it at that. Plus with the Networks aspect getting pretty much done away with they only show up to people who are fans, before they showed up in the wider network.

I can't believe you gave into his pressure on the steak and kidney pie front. Blech! :P You DO know what the kidney does, right? ;)

I'm sorry I wasn't more diligent about reading these past weeks, and it looks like you had a great time in Jamaica. I promise to be a more frequent reader in the future. :)
