It's pretty much how I live - I work in the same place and on the same machine at which I play. After reading all these mentions of PLEs, the more integrated approach you laid out really seemed to work for me! One of the interesting things about my PLE/PWE was that it's just sort of built up over time, I didn't set out to create one.
